University Grants Commission (UGC), conducts a test for determining the eligibility of Indian nationals for the Eligibility for Assistant Professor only or Junior Research Fellowship and Eligibility for Assistant Professor both in Indian universities and colleges termed as NET (National Eligibility Test) or JRF (Junior Research Fellowship). It started in 1989-1990 by the CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) board through an offline examination process. But from 2018, NTA (National Testing Agency) took the lead and will be conducted under its supervision through an online examination process. It is offered twice a year once in May-June another towards the end of the year Nov-Dec.
University Grants Commission (UGC) announced that the candidates who clear the NET would be eligible for remunerative jobs in public sector undertakings (PSUs). It completely depends on the recruitment process of the posts of executives in their organizations in disciplines like science, corporate communications, management, human resources, and finance on that particular field.
A student who qualifies NET can also opt for lectureship or Assistance Professor under a govt. affiliated college under a govt. university or directly apply for pvt sector university or schools. While a candidate qualifying JRF has can opt for the same or also go for further research in their PhD course with a fixed payment scale from the govt.
